Ball Valve Seat Materials

1. Virgin TFE

Virgin TFE is a good all-around, general purpose seating material. TFE has outstanding resistance to chemical attack by a broad spectrum of organic chemicals, inorganic chemicals and solvents and is generally considered chemically inert. TFE is a selflubricating polymer with a very low coefficient of friction, which makes an excellent seating material for quarter-turn ball valves.

1) Color Code
Virgin TFE resin has a natural pigment of WHITE.

2) Temperature Range
-20oF to +400oF temperature range in ball valve applications.

3) Pressure Range
27″ vacuum to 600 PSI non-shock water, oil or gas.

4) Unique Features
Best choice for low pressure sealing, lowest torque of all TFE polymers.

5) Typical Applications
Cold and hot potable water, HVAC chilled and hot water. Evaporative cooling systems.

2.  15% Reinforced TFE

Uses short strand fiberglass as a reinforcement for our mid-range ball valve products. Adding reinforcement increases the pressure containing capabilities of TFE by reducing its tendency to cold-flow.

1) Color Code
15% reinforced TFE is color coded BLUE. This pigment is permanently molded into the TFE polymer matrix.

2) Temperature Range
-20oF to +400oF temperature range in ball valve applications.

3) Pressure Range
27″ vacuum to 1,000 PSI non-shock water, oil or gas.

4) Unique Features
Greater resistance to cold-flow than virgin TFE.

5) Typical Applications
Mid-range steam applications. Throttling and balancing of hydronic heating and cooling systems.

3.  25% Reinforced TFE

Uses short strand fiberglass as a reinforcement for our higher pressure carbon steel and alloy ball valve products.
Adding reinforcement increases the pressure containing capabilities of TFE by reducing its tendency to cold-flow.

1) Color Code
25% reinforced TFE resin has a color code of RED. This pigment is permanently molded into the TFE resin matrix.

2) Temperature Range
-20oF to +400oF temperature range in ball valve applications.

3) Pressure Range
27″ vacuum to 2,000 PSI non-shock water, oil or gas.

4) Unique Features
Greater resistance to cold-flow than virgin TFE.

5) Typical Applications
Mid-range steam applications. Throttling and balancing of hydronic heating and cooling systems.

4. Nylon

Nylon is predominantly used past the useful pressure range of TFE because of its ability to resist permanent deformation (or creep), and recovery after load.

1) Color Code
Natural or Black

2) Temperature Range
-20° to +160° F temperature range in ball valve applications.

3) Pressure Range
27″ vacuum to 3,000 PSI.

4) Unique Features
Used in oil and gas transmission.

5) Typical Applications
Grease, oils, alphitic and aromatic hydrocarbons, paint, cosmetics, and detergents.
